Successful Launch of IFORPLAN Project in Kranjska Gora

The international IFORPLAN project (Innovative Spatial Forest Planning for Supporting Resilient Multifunctional Forest Management) held its first partner meeting on September 19-20, 2024 in Ljubljana and Kranjska Gora, Slovenia. The project, involving partners from Estonia, Finland, Poland, and Slovenia, focuses on innovative spatial planning to support multifunctional forest management. The pilot area in Slovenia is the Kranjska Gora forest management unit.

The first day took place at the Biotechnical Faculty in Ljubljana, where participants were welcomed by Dean Prof. Dr. Marina Pintar. The discussions focused on zoning priority forest areas and improving planning methods, with various project aspects presented, emphasizing forest resilience and multifunctionality.

On the second day, participants visited the pilot area in Kranjska Gora. Key stakeholders, including representatives from the Slovenia Forest Service and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, presented local forest management challenges and tourism impacts. A field visit followed, offering insights into production, protective, and conservation functions of the forests.

The meeting concluded with a review of progress and future tasks aimed at optimizing forest functions and enhancing resilience to climate change.
