We are happy to share our first article from Iforplan project published in Ecosystem Services:

“A novel approach for assessing the importance of forest ecosystem services using indicators of potential and demand<\/strong>” https:\/\/lnkd.in\/daExbHeQ<\/strong><\/a>

This study presents a transparent and participatory framework for assessing forest ecosystem services by integrating both their ecological potential and societal demand. Rather than focusing only on what forests can provide, our approach also considers what people and society actually need from forests.

Key highlights:
\u2022 Development of a novel framework that integrates the potential and societal demand of forest ecosystem services, providing a comprehensive basis for assessment and spatial prioritization.
\u2022 Identification and weighting indicators for timber production, recreation, and nature conservation through a participatory expert process.
\u2022 Revealing substantial differences in ecosystem service priorities across Estonia, Finland, Poland, and Slovenia, highlighting the need for context-sensitive and multifunctional forest management and planning.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

On May the 15th and 16th 2025, members of working group 2 and heads of the countries\u2019 teams, met in Estonia. We spent two very fruitful days at the Estonian University of Life Sciences at the Institute of Forestry and Engineering. In addition to scientific discussions, we visited the Koork\u00fcla site. The Koorkula community is a place where the Estonian team performs all activities connected to the IFORPLAN project. For members from other countries, it was a great opportunity not only to see the Estonian forest, but to grasp a little knowledge about the history and current management of the research area. It was a great pleasure despite the weather conditions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
